In this engaging and informative lesson, students are enabled to make sustained and developed interpretations regarding the introduction and development of the character of Mr Darcy in ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ In particular, students learn about how he at first appears solely proud and aloof, before studying the events through which the more subtle aspects of his character emerge. The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which students learn through: - Establishing how Darcy fits the criteria of the ‘Romantic Hero;’ - Reading and understanding how Darcy is introduced in the novel, using relevant textual evidence; - Tracking how his character develops through the notable events of the novel; - Analysing how Austen introduces and develops Darcy’s character through plot events and Elizabeth’s thoughts; - Peer assessing each other’s learning attempts. Included is: - Whole lesson PowerPoint - colourful and comprehensive; - Extract from Chapter 3; - ‘Development of Darcy’ task resources - with teacher answer sheet; - Supportive and clear essay template; - Comprehensive lesson plan. There are also opportunities for group learning, peer assessment, and whole class discussion. These resources were originally taught to GCSE students, but with subtle adaptations they have also been used with both younger and older (up to A Level) students. This fun and original collective worship session aims to assist children in valuing diversity. Children understand that God made diversity in the world and loves each and every individual. They also understand how Jesus supported people from all walks of life when on earth, through reading brief, child-friendly summaries of the bible stories of Levi the Tax Collector and Blind Bart. I love leading this collective worship session, because I feel that the key message within it is so vital, especially in the present climate. More importantly, wherever I have presented this (to a wide-range of students from a wide-range of contexts) it has always gone down extremely well, with students being extremely engaged and informing me of the different ways in which they have celebrated differences in the months that follow! The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to Prince Harry, Emma Watson, and others in popular culture, to demonstrate that each individual has their own strengths, weaknesses, like and dislikes, and that we need all of these to make life interesting and valuable! There is also a fun toothpaste challenge task, which demonstrates the importance of ensuring that our words to others are kind and respectful. The challenge includes a hyperlink to a countdown clock. All other resources that you will need are provided in the pack. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included two pages of notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

This resource booklet contains a wide range of age-appropriate, engaging, and meaningful comprehension activities for use throughout the reading of Roald Dahl's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.' Teachers have found them particularly useful in comprehension or guided reading sessions. They are perfect for aiding the progress of children towards meeting the KS2 expectations within the new National Curriculum framework. Children love learning from these resources, whilst they are also of great use to teachers, as there is explicit information within each task regarding which comprehension strands the task is designed to demonstrate. They also relate to key extracts, characters, and themes from the story, ensuring that children gain a deep understanding of the text. Activities within the booklet include: - 'An Interview with Charlie Bucket' - to enable students to demonstrate that they can: 'Understand what is read by drawing on information from more than one paragraph, identifying key details that support the main ideas, and using quotations for illustration;' - 'Dahl's Description' - to enable students to demonstrate that they can: 'Explain meanings of words that they know and ask the meaning of new words. This lesson aims to build students’ understanding of E.E Cummings’ key messages in ‘next to of course god america i,’ with a particular focus upon the language and structure of the poem. By the end of the lesson, students demonstrate their knowledge of the text analytically, through assured, appropriate, and sustained interpretations. Students learn through a logical and step-by-step learning journey, including: -Defining the key term 'patriotism' and considering its pros and cons; -Understanding key information about E.E Cummings' life; -Reading and interpreting the poem; -Investigating the structural make-up of the poem, and considering how this links to the poet's message; -Identifying the language features used throughout the poem, and considering how these link to the poet's message; -Analysing how language and structure create meaning through the poem; -Peer assessing each others' learning attempts. This original assembly aims to assist children in understanding the value of showing forgiveness, through: -Understanding what forgiveness is, and recognising why it is important; -Looking at examples of times when they may need to forgive others or seek forgiveness, through stories and scenarios; -Learning strategies to demonstrate forgiveness in their own lives. It has been tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in (for example how they might act during and after conflicts) in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives. The session also includes an enduring real-life story of Nelson Mandela’s forgiveness of others and various discussion activities regarding how to show forgiveness in different areas of their own lives. No further resources are required, everything that you need to present the assembly is included. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included two pages of notes to assist the speaker. This resource pack contains two engaging lessons introducing the concepts of computers and information technology. They were designed as the first two lessons in a 6-lesson scheme on computer systems and networks (aimed at children in lower key stage 2). The two lessons included are: Computers and their Benefits -Learning Objective: Understanding the features of computers, and why they are useful. -Success Criteria: -I can list some examples of computers; -I can identify the input, process and output for a type of computer; -I can explain some advantages and disadvantages of using computers for tasks. 2.Information Technology -Learning Objective: Understanding information technology and how it benefits our daily lives. -Success Criteria: -I know the difference between a ‘computer’ and information technology; -I can identify examples of information technology in the school; -I can design my own information technology device. The learning is guided by a clear and comprehensive PowerPoint presentation (28 slides in total) and all of the worksheets/ templates needed for the activities. In the past, I have used these lessons with children between Years 2 and 4 - the key learning is aligned with curriculum expectations for computing. All images are licensed for commercial use.
